The delegation, headed by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Vladimir Norov, is staying in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.  Today, 13 May, the meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers has begun.

The last time the CIS foreign ministers met in Minsk was six months before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.  Uzbekistan was represented by former Uzbek Foreign Affairs Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov.  The situation in the region at that time was much more stable than it is today.

According to the reports from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, an exchange of views is expected on topical regional and international issues, as well as on promising directions for the development of multifaceted cooperation within the Commonwealth.

It was noted that special attention would be paid to issues of international security, strengthening of cultural, humanitarian and scientific ties.

Preparations for the new meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the CIS, scheduled for 14 October 2022 in the capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan, will also be discussed.

Undoubtedly, the meeting will discuss the situation in Ukraine.  It is reported that the head of the Russian diplomatic administration Sergey Lavrov will inform his colleagues (foreign ministers of CIS member states) about the ongoing special military operation launched by Russia in response to the appeal of the leaders of the Donbas republics.
