Car theft suspects arrested after attacking police officer

Two young men who stole a Cobalt in the Syrdarya region stabbed an internal affairs officer who attempted to stop them in the Tashkent region, “Millar” reported.

According to the report, the suspects were passengers in a Cobalt in Samarkand. When the driver stopped in Syrdarya region to use the toilet, they seized the vehicle and fled. Acting on an urgent report, an internal affairs officer in Tashkent region tried to stop the car, but one of the suspects threw a sharp object at him, causing injury. Thanks to timely medical assistance, the officer’s life was saved.

Swift operational measures led to the suspects’ arrest in the city of Ahangaron, Tashkent region. They have been placed in detention pending investigation.

According to the press secretary of the Prosecutor General's Office, Hayot Shamsutdinov, a criminal case has been opened under Articles 25 and 97 (attempted intentional murder) and Article 267 (vehicle hijacking) of the Criminal Code. Investigations are ongoing.

Earlier, in the Khojaabad district of Andijan region, a preventive inspector died after being stabbed while responding to a call. The 65-year-old suspect fled the scene but was caught in a cemetery on July 4.

The late preventive inspector, Senior Lieutenant Abdurasul Abduvaliyev, was posthumously awarded the “Courage” medal by presidential decree.
