Central Asian leaders to gather in Tashkent

On November 16 this year, the 7th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia will be held in Tashkent.

The summit in Tashkent, hosted by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, is expected to be attended by the leaders of the region’s countries — President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan. President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has also been invited to the Tashkent summit.

In September 2017, during the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan advanced constructive ideas and initiatives aimed at strengthening peace and security in Central Asia and ensuring sustainable socio-economic development in the region. These initiatives were presented as a comprehensive program at the international conference titled ’’Central Asia: Shared history and common future, cooperation for sustainable development and prosperity,’’ held in Samarkand in November of the same year. The Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia was established as a continuation of these efforts. The first Consultative Meeting took place on March 15, 2018, in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The second Consultative Meeting was held in Tashkent on November 29, 2019.

The third meeting took place on August 6, 2021, in the ’’Avaza’’ national tourist zone of Turkmenistan. The fourth was held on July 21, 2022, in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan. The fifth Consultative Meeting took place on September 14, 2023, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, while the sixth was held on August 9, 2024, in Astana, Kazakhstan.

It is worth noting that ahead of the upcoming Seventh Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Tashkent, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan published an article titled ’’Central Asia on the threshold of a new era’’  on November 13.
