Maria Timofeeva wins Makarska Open

The WTA 125 tournament in Makarska, Croatia, concluded on June 7, with Maria Timofeeva, who represents Uzbekistan, winning the title.

In the final, Timofeeva defeated Latvia’s Darja Semenistaja 6-2, 6-3 to claim the main trophy. It was the first meeting between the two players. Neither player recorded an ace during the final, which lasted 93 minutes.

Semenistaja committed two double faults, while Timofeeva finished the match without any. Timofeeva also held the advantage in break points, converting five compared to Semenistaja’s two.

The victory earned Timofeeva 125 ranking points and lifted her 27 places in the WTA live rankings, making her the world No. 91.

On her way to the title, Timofeeva also defeated Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo, a former world No. 32, in the semifinals.
