Earlier, reports emerged suggesting that the Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA) had reached an agreement with Italian specialist Fabio Cannavaro, with his annual salary, including coaching expenses, estimated at around €4 million. However, the UFA First Vice-President Ravshan Ermatov denied these reports today, October 6, during a press conference.
’’Various figures are circulating on social media, but I want to state clearly that these are just rumors. The UFA has carried out all procedures legally, transparently, and within its means. From an ethical standpoint, it would not be appropriate to disclose this information,’’ Ermatov said.
He also confirmed that Temur Kapadze will continue his role as assistant coach to maintain the stability of the national team.
’’We express our deep gratitude to all the coaches whose efforts contributed to achieving this historic result and qualifying for the World Cup, especially Srecko Katanec and Temur Kapadze.
The World Cup is a major tournament watched by the entire world, and the attention of the global football community will be on Uzbekistan. Therefore, to ensure a strong performance at the tournament and to bring the World Cup atmosphere, it was decided to involve a specialist who has competed as a professional player. The UFA leadership and the Coaching Council deemed it appropriate to appoint the Italian expert Fabio Cannavaro as the head coach of our national team to prepare the squad for the World Cup,’’ the UFA vice president said.
It has been announced that the new head coach has signed a 2+3 contract. The Italian specialist will serve as the head coach of the Uzbekistan national team for two years. If the results during this period are satisfactory, the contract may be extended for an additional three years.
Davron Fayziev, the head of the UFA's media department, also confirmed that UFA had held discussions with German coach Joachim Low and Portuguese coach Paulo Bento.
