A new government resolution titled “On Taking Measures to Create Additional Convenience for the Public in the Use of Vehicles,” adopted on May 15 this year, stipulates that the speed limit around schools and preschools will now be fixed at 30 km/h to enhance safety in these sensitive areas.

In line with this decision, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will, by September 1, 2025, install road signs indicating the 30 km/h speed limit in the vicinity of school and preschool institutions. In addition, special monitoring equipment will be deployed to ensure that this speed limit is strictly adhered to.

The new regulation allows for the temporary raising of the speed limit to the standard permitted level on weekends, during holidays, and from 19:00 to 07:00.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is set to prepare amendments and supplementary provisions to the current traffic regulations within two months, which will then be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers. In addition, the resolution mandates that, in partnership with the Ministry of Transport, electronic warning boards be installed in areas where compliance with speed limits is not observed. These measures will later be extended to other regions under specific governmental programs.

Additionally, all specialized technical devices employed on roads to monitor and enforce speed laws will be rigorously inspected by a special commission to ensure they meet required technical standards. Devices that do not comply or have been illegally installed will be removed.

According to the resolution, municipal and district authorities will establish dedicated road infrastructure development funds under the supervision of local government administrations, and these funds will be exclusively allocated for road safety improvements.

It is worth recalling that earlier announcements indicated that, from June 1, construction work related to repairing or repainting road markings on city streets would be prohibited between 07:00 and 21:00 (with exceptions for weekends and unavoidable special circumstances).
