French dairy giant Lactalis has decided to recall Picot infant formula found to contain the cereulide toxin from 18 countries, including Uzbekistan. France 24 reported this.

According to the report, the products will be withdrawn from sale in the following countries: Australia, Chile, China, Colombia, Congo, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, France, Georgia, Greece, Kuwait, Madagascar, Mexico, Monaco, Spain, Peru, Taiwan, and Uzbekistan.

Cereulide toxin can cause severe food poisoning in infants. French authorities said that so far no complaints have been received regarding adverse health effects in children after consuming the affected formula.

It is worth noting that mass recalls have recently been observed in the infant formula market. Last week, Singaporean authorities withdrew Dumex-brand formula produced by Danone from sale. In addition, Nestlé France announced a voluntary recall of certain batches of Guigoz and Nidal infant formulas due to the possible presence of cereulide.

It should be recalled that earlier reports said Nestlé had also voluntarily recalled several batches of baby food in Uzbekistan.
