A new article will be added to the Constitution

It is planned to amend Articles 26 and 41 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and add Article 37-1.  The press secretary of the Constitutional Commission Odiljon Tajiyev provided information about this.

It is noted that several new norms will be included in the draft law based on the suggestions received during the public debate on the project. In particular, the following part is being considered to be added to Article 26 of the Constitution:

"A person cannot be found guilty or punished if his confession is the only evidence against him."

In this regard, it is planned to update a number of articles and add additional norms to them.  In particular, Article 37-1 is introduced as follows:

"The state takes measures to protect citizens from unemployment and reduce poverty.

The state organizes and encourages professional training and retraining of citizens to ensure their employment."

Article 41 of the Constitution shall be amended as follows:

"The state ensures the development of the continuous education system, its various types and forms, state and non-state educational organizations."

According to Tajiyev, the responsible committees of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the members of the Constitutional Commission, and the groups of experts continue to have heated debates on every proposal received from citizens.

We remind you that on June 24 of this year, the Constitutional draft law "On Amendments and Additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan" was adopted by the deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.  In the legislative chamber, a corresponding decision was also made to put the draft law for public discussion.

In addition, the draft of the Constitutional law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Amendments and Additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan" prepared as a result of the public discussion was submitted to the referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan. adopted for information.

However, due to the demonstrations that took place in Karakalpakstan in early July, the deadline for the discussion of the draft constitutional law on amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan was extended from 5-15 of July.

Later, at the meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan held on July 15 of this year, it was decided to extend the period of public discussion of the draft Constitutional law "On Amendments and Additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan" until 1 August 2022.  A decision was made.  On 1 August, the public discussion was completed.
