24810On September 4-5, the Tenth International Scientific and Practical Conference of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure (RATS) and the Second CIS Conference on Combating Terrorism and Extremism are being held in Tashkent, as reported by UzA.
During the plenary session of the conference, Lieutenant General Abdusalam Azizov, Chairman of the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan, addressed the complex and multifaceted military-political processes within the SCO and CIS. He highlighted the need for coordinated efforts in the fight against international terrorism, extremism, and radicalism.
"This situation presents a direct threat to the security of SCO member states. The challenge is exacerbated by the continued aggressive intentions of international terrorist organizations against our countries," Azizov stated.
He noted that the Afghan government is actively combating international terrorism with its available resources, and the Afghan Special Services are making strides in the fight against ISIS.
"It is crucial that we unite in this battle. Supporting Afghanistan in its fight against the 'Khorasan Region' is vital, as weakening our countermeasures could lead to a strengthening of this group, which would, in turn, pose a greater threat to regional security," emphasized the DSC Chairman.
Azizov expressed his belief that achieving stability and security in the region requires mutual trust, consistent and coordinated actions, and the regular exchange of information and expertise in combating international terrorism, extremism, and cyber threats.
"Therefore, it is imperative to hold international conferences where participants can discuss current challenges and security threats, develop effective countermeasures, and enhance anti-terrorist cooperation at both international and regional levels," Azizov concluded.
