The director of the foreign investment attraction agency, Murad Mirzayev, has been ousted from his position. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev issued the relevant directive on January 18 during a meeting addressing export, investment, and local industry goals for 2024.
Criticism has been directed at the agency for its limited scope, focusing on forums without providing an investment map for different regions. Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khojayev has been tasked with developing an updated investment program, considering last year's delays in each region and sector.
Additionally, three Deputy Ministers of Investment have been appointed to oversee sectors with substantial foreign investment needs, namely healthcare and transport.
During the meeting, plans were outlined by complex management, sector leaders, and regional representatives to attract a total of $38 billion in investments, with an additional $15 billion specified by the Ministry of Energy.
The Foreign Investment Attraction Agency, established in July 2019 under the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade, appointed Murad Mirzayev as director in February 2023.
It is noteworthy that earlier, Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade Badriddin Abidov, and the Head of the Technical Regulatory Agency Dilshod Satorov were relieved of their positions.
