Husband fatally struck his wife with an axe in Khorezm

A resident of the Shovot district in the Khorezm region was sentenced to a decade in prison for murdering his wife with an ax, alleging her involvement in sorcery, as reported by QALAMPIR.UZ.

The incident occurred on December 16, 2023. Born in 1952, the husband accused his wife of practicing witchcraft. Amidst a heated argument, he struck her 17 times with an ax found in the room, resulting in her immediate death.

Following the murder, the man barricaded himself inside his home and attempted suicide multiple times. However, law enforcement officers intervened, providing him with necessary medical assistance.

On April 2, 2024, the Shavat district court delivered its verdict on the case, convicting the man for the murder of his wife.

The accused, who is retired from the medical profession, had a spouse also employed in the healthcare sector. The couple had six children.

“On December 16, 2023, A.Kh. woke up during the night and initially requested blood pressure medication from his wife. After retrieving the requested drugs and administering an injection, A.Kh. alleged that he couldn't sleep due to sorcery. Subsequently, in a fit of anger, he retrieved an ax from the stove and struck his wife 17 times, resulting in her immediate death,” the court records.

In accordance with the court's ruling, A.Kh. was found culpable of the offense outlined in part 1 of Article 97 of the Criminal Code (Premeditated homicide) and was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment. Additionally, it was specified that the defendant would serve their sentence in a standard penal colony.

It's worth noting that earlier in Jizzakh, a man fatally assaulted his 25-year-old wife.
