Construction start date for “China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan” railway was announced

Construction of the "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway is set to commence on August 25 of this year. This announcement was made by Kyrgyz Prime Minister Okilbek Japarov at the inauguration of the 2 MW "Issiq-Ota-1" small hydropower station in the Chuy region.

"We anticipate beginning the railway construction on August 25. The project was halted during the Soviet era, but we are now proceeding. This railway represents the shortest route from Shanghai to Paris and is projected to handle 15 million tons of cargo annually. We have completed the feasibility studies, and the project is expected to be self-sustaining within 15-20 years. Looking ahead, in 30 years, this railway could extend to the sea, enhancing our global trade," stated Prime Minister Japarov.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Irisbek Bariev noted that the project's total cost is $4.665 billion. Kyrgyzstan, China, and Uzbekistan will jointly cover half of this amount—$2.332 billion. China will contribute 51%, while Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will each cover 24.5%. Specifically, China will invest $1.187 billion, and both Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will invest $573 million each.

The remaining $2.332 billion will be provided by China as a loan to the Joint Design Company formed by the three countries.
