Construction of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway enters active phase

The construction project for the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway has entered an active phase. The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan reported this.
It was noted that today, July 10, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan with representatives of China State Railway Group. The parties discussed the progress of the project and the next stages of railway construction. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan Almaz Turgunboyev and China State Railway Group board member Wang Jingxi.
According to the ministry, the main international and investment agreements for the project have already been signed. The general contractor has also been selected, and financing issues have been resolved. Construction of tunnels, bridges and other infrastructure facilities is currently underway.
The Kyrgyz side emphasized the need to involve local specialists in the construction, use materials from local producers and comply with environmental requirements. During the meeting, representatives of the two countries stressed the importance of transparency in implementing the project and agreed to continue joint work to complete construction within the established timeframe.
The ministry recalled that the new railway will expand Kyrgyzstan’s transport capabilities, strengthen economic ties and increase the country’s transit potential.
For reference, the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the region. The total length of the route is nearly 480 kilometers, of which more than 304 kilometers will pass through Kyrgyz territory.
Earlier, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is expected to be launched in 2030. It was also reported that Bishkek would receive a $304.5 million concessional loan from China to finance Kyrgyzstan’s share in the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project.
