Reports have circulated online claiming that the assistants of former Uzbekistan national football team head coach Srečko Katanec plan to file a complaint with FIFA against the Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA), demanding 350,000 euros in compensation for the early termination of their contracts. The UFA has since issued an official statement.

According to the association, “As stated in the contracts of the assistant coaches of the former head coach of the Uzbekistan national team, the clause stipulating that ‘if the head coach’s contract is terminated, the assistants’ contracts will also be automatically terminated’ came into effect. Therefore, their contracts were automatically canceled, and they were duly informed.”

The UFA also clarified that Katanec’s contract had been terminated by mutual consent and that the assistants’ contracts were canceled as a result of the arrival of a new coaching staff.

It was further noted that such contractual clauses are standard practice in FIFA regulations and the jurisprudence of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The association added that the former assistants were offered positions in other youth national teams but declined, stating that their original contracts had been signed specifically for the senior team preparing for the World Cup over the past few years.

Earlier, on January 22 this year, Srečko Katanec mutually agreed with the Uzbekistan Football Association to terminate his contract due to health issues.
