Original ID card or passport must be presented – Road Safety Service

While driving a vehicle, drivers are required to present the original copy of their biometric passport or ID card to road patrol officers. The Road Safety Service under the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this.

Reports had circulated on social media claiming that from July 1 this year, if road patrol officers stop a vehicle, drivers may present an electronic version of their passport or ID card. The Road Safety Service responded to these reports.

According to the service, drivers will still be required to present the original copy of their biometric passport or ID card to road patrol officers, even after July 1.

Under the relevant decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, from July 1, 2025, unified digital services for 17 types of documents will be introduced through the my.gov.uz unified interactive public services portal and the Social Card mobile application. It was determined that paper copies of these digital services will not be required in banks, notary offices, airports when registering for domestic flights, when boarding trains operating within the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in the provision of state, corporate and other services, including electronic services, as well as in state bodies and other organizations that require the presentation of relevant documents when receiving citizens.

The current procedure applies at the Road Safety Service’s administrative practice centers serving citizens, as well as at registration and examination departments.

“However, according to Part 4 of Article 135 of the Code of Administrative Liability, drivers are required to present the original copy of their biometric passport or identification ID card to road patrol inspectors while driving a vehicle,” the statement said, explaining why original documents must be presented.

It was emphasized that if a driver has a passport or ID card, they are not required to carry a driver’s license, vehicle registration certificate, documents confirming ownership of the vehicle or the right to use or dispose of it in the owner’s absence, an insurance policy, or the relevant permit for tinting or darkening vehicle windows.
