Uzbek grandmaster Gulrukhbegim Tohirjonova, who has been representing the United States national chess team for several years, will once again defend the honor of the Uzbek national team. This was announced by the press service of the “UzChess” project.

“International Master of Sports Gulrukhbegim Tohirjonova has decided to return to Uzbekistan from the US Federation. The decision of our athlete, who won the titles of Female Grandmaster in 2016 and International Master of Sports in 2024, will serve to further strengthen Uzbek chess on a global scale,” the statement read.

Tohirjonova has been playing for the US national team since 2021 and was named the Best Female Chess Player of America in 2023.

Notably, Tohirjonova left the Uzbekistan national team due to conflicts with the leadership of the Uzbekistan Chess Federation. She competed under the US flag at the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in December 2022, where she faced off against her sister, Nafisa Muminova.
