Changes are being introduced to the application process for the U.S. Green Card lottery. The U.S. Department of State has announced updates regarding the submission timeline and procedures for the Diversity Visa (DV) 2027 program, according to a statement published on the department’s official website.

“The U.S. Department of State is implementing certain changes to the Diversity Visa (DV) application process. The start date for DV–2027 registration, as well as the date when results will be announced through the Entry Status Check (ESC) system, will be shared as soon as possible,” the statement reads.

The department also noted that the changes will not affect the visa application period for DV–2027 winners, which will still run from October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027.

Traditionally, Green Card registration opens in early October and closes on November 5 each year. However, applications have not yet opened this year.

It is worth noting that the U.S. Department of State previously announced that, starting September 16, 2025, all Diversity Visa lottery applicants will be required to pay a $1 electronic registration fee.
