The Ministry of Emergency Situations appealed to residents not to skate on the ice on the lakes.  It is noted that due to anomalous cold, the surface of the lakes is covered with ice, and residents, especially children, are skating and thus slipping, on the ice.

“Following a sharp drop in temperature in Uzbekistan, large rivers, lakes, and even waterfalls in a number of regions of the republic have frozen solid.  In these areas, people, especially young children, enjoy skating and sledding.  “Although the temperature has warmed up in recent days, the ice covering the lakes has not melted,” the report said.

It is noted that there is a high probability of cracking of the lakes in the republic because the ice cover is not thick.  This is is life threatening to those who skate or play on the ice.

“In this regard, the Ministry of Emergencies advises residents not to skate or slide on the ice on the lakes,” the message read.
