Woman detained in Fergana for planting 450 poppy seeds in her garden

A 67-year-old woman has been detained in the Buvayda district of Fergana region for illegally cultivating 450 poppy plants in her garden. The incident was reported by the regional Department of Internal Affairs.
According to the report, during an inspection conducted by officers of the Buvayda District Internal Affairs Department, and in the presence of witnesses, it was discovered that the woman—born in 1958 and residing in the village of Buvayda—had planted the prohibited crop on her residential property.
A criminal case has been initiated under Part 1 of Article 270 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, which pertains to the cultivation of crops prohibited by law.
This incident follows a similar discovery in the Tashlak district of the Fergana region, where a citizen was found to be growing 103 poppy plants and 118 cannabis plants. In another recent operation in the city of Margilan, authorities uncovered 170 pills of narcotics being stored in a private home.
