3613From January 1, 2025, cash fares for buses and metro in Tashkent are expected to increase. This was announced in the draft resolution of the Tashkent city governor “On promoting the electronic payment system in the Tashkent city public transport system”.
“Starting from January 1, 2025, the possibility of paying in cash in the cabins of city public transport buses will be limited. For this, special self-service kiosks will be set up at buses and stops today. Through these kiosks, passengers will buy one-time tickets for their own cash. Special devices will be installed on buses to read these tickets. Through this, passengers will make payments,” said Navruz Ashirmatov, Head of the Information Service of the Ministry of Transport, in an interview with QALAMPIR.UZ.
According to the new regulations:
The price of a single fare with cash payment is set at 3,000 sums,
When paid through the electronic payment system, it is set at 1,700 sums.
So, how does the population react to the price increase?
QALAMPIR.UZ was interested in their opinion:
“I am against increasing public transport prices,” says a man who regularly uses public transport.
“It would be better if it were two thousand,” said a female passenger.
“Transport prices have been increased, will salaries and scholarships also increase?” said a female student.
“If possible, it would be better not to increase them. People would suffer,” says another public transport user.
What is the main goal of introducing new tariffs and increasing prices specifically when paying by cash?
“Today, the share of electronic payment indicators is 60 percent. The future goal is to increase this indicator and make the process 100 percent electronic,” said Navruz Ashirmatov.
People also said that they would like the electronic payment system. However, there are also those who prefer cash payment.
“It is more convenient for me to pay with a card because I take my grandchildren to school every day. My son replenishes our card,” said an elderly mother.
“If it costs 3,000 sums, it is more convenient to pay with bus cards, because 3,000 is more expensive for us,” said a female student.
What will people be offered in exchange for increasing prices?
“This will give the population the opportunity to save on fares using the electronic payment system. Because when paying by card, the fare remains unchanged at 1,700 sums,” said the Head of the Information Service of the Ministry of Transport.
Another noteworthy point is that if you take a bus or metro with luggage, that is, using the baggage service, you will pay 4,000 soums for your luggage.
“In general, tariffs for the baggage transportation service already existed. In this case, passengers carrying luggage with units of measurement of 120 by 65 cm will have to pay an additional fee for using the baggage transportation service,” said Navruz Ashirmatov.
In addition, in addition to the current daily and monthly tariffs for making electronic payments, multi-trip tariff plans will be introduced based on the number of trips.
At the same time, the prices of the existing preferential and free tariff plans for moving from one direction to another within an hour using transport cards will remain unchanged.
