Nomination of the prosecutor general will be reconsidered tomorrow

18526Tomorrow, on June 21, at the 53rd plenary session of the Senate, the nomination of the Prosecutor General will be reconsidered. This matter was discussed at a meeting held today, June 20, chaired by Senate Chairman Tanzila Norboyeva.
The current Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan, Nigmatilla Yoldoshev, presided over the Senate from 2015 to 2019. In June 2019, he was appointed Prosecutor General.
For reference, according to Article 144 of the Constitution, the term of office for the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Prosecutor of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, and regional, district, and city prosecutors is five years. The same individual cannot serve as Prosecutor General of the Republic of Uzbekistan for more than two consecutive terms.
The meeting will also address the election of the chairman of the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights, and changes to the composition of the Supreme Council of Judges.
Additionally, amendments will be made to several laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan, including "On recognition of rights to arbitrarily occupied land plots and buildings and structures built on them," "In connection with the improvement of legislation in the field of cybersecurity," and laws amending the documents of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On the rights of persons with disabilities."
