Erkinjon Turdimov was confirmed as governor of Samarkand

19080Erkinjon Akbotayevich Turdimov has been reaffirmed as the governor of the Samarkand region during the first session of the seventh convocation of the Regional Council of People's Deputies, as reported by the regional government’s press service.
The session, which involved consultations with party groups regarding the nomination for the governorship, was attended by Gofurjon Mirzayev, Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan. Mirzayev announced that Turdimov had been nominated for the role by the President himself.
Turdimov was born on July 10, 1969, in the Koshrabot district of the Samarkand region. He graduated from the Tashkent Institute of National Economy in 1991 with a degree in economics and has served as the governor of the Samarkand region since 2018.
According to Uzbek law, regional governors are nominated by the President and confirmed in consultation with party groups. Per Article 2 of the Law "On Local State Power," the President of Uzbekistan appoints and dismisses regional governors and the mayor of Tashkent. Additionally, no individual can serve as governor of the same region for more than two consecutive terms, with each term lasting five years.
Under Article 123 of the Constitution, regional governors are responsible for implementing national laws, presidential orders, and regional development plans. Their duties encompass economic, social, cultural, and environmental development, as well as managing the local budget.
