7064Starting June 8, residents in Uzbekistan who are in debt for waste collection services will be unable to make electricity payments until their outstanding dues are cleared. This provision is part of the newly adopted law, “Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Strengthen Payment Discipline in Waste Collection and Disposal Services,” approved on March 7.
According to the law, consumers with unpaid mandatory fees for solid household waste collection and disposal services will be notified via SMS. Until the debt is settled, payments for electricity services will be blocked.
Additionally, organizations responsible for providing solid household waste collection and disposal services will bear the responsibility for ensuring accurate and reliable billing. In cases of errors or violations, these organizations must compensate consumers for damages incurred.
The restriction on electricity payment acceptance will be automatically lifted once the waste debt is paid. Consumers will have 5 days to resolve their outstanding balance, as outlined in the new law.
This regulation will come into effect on June 8, 2025.
It’s worth noting that earlier reports about a "three-bag waste limit" being imposed on households in the capital were officially denied.
