Now in Uzbekistan, a person who does not pay alimony will be forced to engage in paid public works.  In this regard, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the law on improving the system of reliable protection of the rights, freedoms and legal interests of women and children.

According to the data, in 2021, more than 5.3 thousand citizens who evaded paying alimony to their minor children were sentenced to administrative prison in the republic, and in 2022, this figure increased to 8.7 thousand.

A fine or prison sentence for non-payment of alimony does not benefit the child receiving alimony.  On the contrary, a person’s money will be collected for a fine or he will be imprisoned and deprived of the opportunity to earn and pay alimony for 15 days.

In order to prevent this, a new type of administrative punishment, compulsory involvement in paid community service, will be introduced into the law.  In this case, equal half of the salary earned by the person performing public works will be given to the recipient of the alimony.

It should be recalled that in Uzbekistan, if a husband or wife prevents their spouse from exercising their rights, or insults, threatens, separates them from close relatives, depending on the severity of the act, they will be brought out and subjected to administrative or criminal liability.  In particular, if a person insults his spouse, or injures their dignity, they will be fined 6 million soms.   Beating with malicious intent and inflicting serious bodily injury will result in a deprivation of freedom for 12 years.
