Tashkent residents spend the most on medicines

3961In the first five months of 2024, Tashkent city saw the highest spending on medicines in Uzbekistan, totaling 2.1 trillion soums. This high expenditure is attributed to the concentration of large medical institutions in the capital.
Following Tashkent, the regions with significant spending on medicines are Samarkand (986.9 billion soums) and the Tashkent region (663.4 billion soums).
In contrast, the regions with the lowest expenditures were Jizzakh (201.3 billion soums), Navoi (191.6 billion soums), and Syrdarya (170 billion soums).
Based on the expenditures and the number of registered residents in each region, the average spending per person on medicines since the beginning of the year is:
- Tashkent city: 750 thousand soums
- Bukhara region: 277 thousand soums
- Samarkand region: 245.1 thousand soums
From January to May, the lowest per capita spending was recorded in:
- Kashkadarya region: 120 thousand soums
- Republic of Karakalpakstan: 118 thousand soums
- Surkhandarya region: 114 thousand soums
This data is compiled from the tax authorities’ database, covering not only regions but also individual districts and neighborhoods.
An analysis of fiscal receipt data shows the most money was spent on medicines for the following diseases:
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Infectious diseases
- Pain relief
- Nervous system diseases
- Gastrointestinal diseases
- Respiratory diseases
- Musculoskeletal system diseases
- Throat and nose diseases
- Liver diseases
There are 8,002 registered pharmacies across the country, along with 15,609 online NCTs. Information on the population’s spending on medical preparations is derived from MHIK codes on fiscal checks issued to consumers. Medicines must be digitally marked, and the validity of drug labeling can be verified using the Tax mobile application.
