Yesterday, on 25 October, in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the bill "On Conflict of Interests" was adopted by deputies in the second and third readings and sent to the Senate. Director of Anti-Corruption Agency Akmal Burhonov provided information about this.

The draft law "On the Prevention of Conflict of Interest" makes it mandatory for civil servants to provide information on suspected conflicts of interest.

Also, liability for violation of requirements regarding conflict of interest is determined.

It is expected that the adoption of these laws will serve to increase the responsibility of state agencies for the prevention of corruption and the elimination of corruption risks, the reduction of corrupt factors in socio-economic and civil relations, and the prevention of nepotism in public service.

According to Burkhanov, studies conducted by the Anti-Corruption agency revealed thousands of cases of conflicts of interest in public service.  However, until now, there have been difficulties in their elimination because the legal basis for the regulation of conflicts of interest or the responsibility for allowing them has not been established.
