28414British Foreign Minister David Cameron will visit Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia to discuss trade, security, and environmental cooperation issues, as reported by "The Independent."
According to the publication, Cameron aims to discuss measures supporting the hard-won independence of Central Asian countries. He will also announce a doubling of funding for Chevening scholarships, which support overseas study at British universities, and £50 million in development spending across the region over the next three years.
Meanwhile, Cameron met with Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon to discuss cooperation in crucial areas such as business, climate change, and counterterrorism efforts.
Additionally, discussions covered prospects for cooperation in addressing water and climate issues, labor migration, and diversification of air routes between countries.
According to "The Independent," during talks with regional leaders, the head of the UK's Foreign Ministry will address issues such as circumventing sanctions, advancing discussions on human rights, and reforms.
As part of his itinerary, he will visit the hydroelectric project in Tajikistan, including the canal irrigation site in Kyrgyzstan.
For context, David Cameron's last visit to Central Asia was in November 2023.
