In Uzbekistan, it is proposed to introduce an excise tax of 15,000 soums per kilogram on potato chips starting April 1, 2026. This proposal has been included in the draft budget for 2026–2028 submitted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

It is reported that starting April 1, 2026, an excise tax of 15,000 soums per kilogram may be introduced on ready-to-eat potato chips. The tax is expected to be paid by legal entities producing potato chips and importers bringing the products into Uzbekistan.

This proposal was developed based on the World Health Organization’s measures to combat overweight and obesity, as well as recommendations from the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan to promote healthy eating. The experiences of other countries were also studied in preparing this measure.

It is worth noting that earlier, household air purifiers (TIF TN code 8509 80) were announced to be exempt from customs duties when imported into Uzbekistan by business entities and individuals.
