3114A woman was apprehended at the Gishtkoprik border customs post in Tashkent district for attempting to smuggle medicine concealed in the clothes of her 9-month-old baby. The incident was reported by Husan Tangriyev, press secretary to the chairman of the Customs Committee.
The woman was initially stopped when she tried to bring 32 Anaferon pills hidden in her baby’s clothes through the customs checkpoint. She was brought to administrative responsibility following the incident.
However, a month later, the same individual was intercepted once again under similar circumstances. This time, she attempted to smuggle 21 Avamis pills, again hidden in the baby’s clothing.
"Customs authorities are continuing to investigate the case," the report states.
It should be noted that similar incidents have occurred at the Gishtkoprik post. In an earlier case, a person was caught attempting to smuggle uncertified medicines from a neighboring country into Uzbekistan. The customs department continues to monitor and crack down on illegal smuggling activities.
