A woman in the Bukhara region who attempted to sell her newborn baby for 10 million soums has been sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison. This was reported by Aziz Obidov, press secretary of the Supreme Court.

According to the report, the woman—identified as citizen N.K.—had been living with an acquaintance in Bukhara. In June 2024, she traveled to Turkey for work and returned in August of the same year, giving birth to a daughter later that month. Intending to go back to Turkey for employment, she decided to sell her baby.

On September 4, 2024, during an undercover operation carried out by officers of the Internal Affairs Directorate and the State Security Service, N.K. was detained while attempting to sell her daughter—born on August 21—for 10 million soums.

“The woman’s guilt was confirmed not only by her confession, but also through marked currency, chemical analysis, recorded conversations, inspection reports, the seizure of physical evidence, expert conclusions, and witness testimony,” the report stated.

The court found N.K. guilty under Part 3, Subparagraph “a” of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (human trafficking) and sentenced her to three and a half years in prison.

It should be noted that a similar case was recently reported in the Samarkand region, where a woman was caught attempting to sell her 15-year-old niece for 20 million soums.
