In the afternoon of September 17, a hydrogen sulfide leak occurred at the "25th Anniversary of Independence" gas field in the Boysun district of Surkhandarya region. This information, initially spread on social networks, was confirmed by Uktam Otaev, Head of the Department of Supervision over Law Enforcement in the Field of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Forestry of the Prosecutor General's Office, during a press conference held at AOKA on September 18.

The incident resulted in the deaths of two people.

"The regional prosecutor personally arrived at the scene. An investigation is currently underway, and the media will be informed of the results. Unfortunately, two people have died. There are also cases of bodily injury, and the investigation is ongoing. You will be updated on the findings," he stated.

Otaev also mentioned that residents of the villages of Kafrum, Kudana, and Dashtighoz had been evacuated.

Jusipbek Kazbekov, Deputy Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, clarified that there is no longer a high concentration of hydrogen sulfide in the area, noting that the situation is a technical issue related to production.

It is worth recalling that on September 1, a hydrogen sulfide leak occurred due to a violation of the technological process during drilling operations at well No. 604 of the "25th Anniversary of Independence" mine. To ensure public safety, residents living near the mine were evacuated to a safe area. Following the incident, the Deputy Prime Minister and several officials visited the site. On September 14, at around 13:05, a PVO (anti-leakage device) was installed on the pipe exiting the tower, and on September 15, the entire system was pressurized. At 16:40 on the same day, a special solution called Barite was applied, and at 16:50, the gas flow from the tower and extraction equipment was successfully stopped.
