In the final days of December 2025, a seepage of oil-containing liquid to the surface was recorded at the M-25 field in Boysun district, Surkhandarya region. The Ministry of Energy reported the incident.

According to the ministry, additional protective containment pools were constructed around the area and along the streambed to prevent the spread of the oil-containing liquid.

“The collected oil-containing liquid is being continuously transported to a designated site. Two specially insulated sludge pits, each with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters, are located there, allowing for the safe storage of the oil-containing liquid and its effective use in the future. All work is being carried out in full compliance with existing industrial and environmental safety requirements,” the statement said.

It was added that laboratory analysis of the oil-containing liquid sample is currently underway. Based on the results, options for further processing will be assessed, while geological surveys continue.

At present, the situation is under constant monitoring, and the oil-containing liquid has been contained. It was reported that cleanup operations are underway to remove oil-containing liquid that initially flowed into a nearby channel.

It is worth noting that gas leaks have previously been reported several times at the M-25 field. Most recently, videos circulated in late November 2025 showing gas leaking from the site. At the time, the Ministry of Energy stated that the footage reflected a geological process observed a week earlier at well No. 202 of the M-25 field, specifically the temporary extinguishing of a pre-existing controlled flame.
