19944On February 26, the cost of 80-grade gasoline surged by 7,000 soums at “Uzbekneftgaz” outlets, up from the previous day's price of 6,800 soums on February 25. This marks a daily increase of 200 soums and a year-to-date hike of nearly 1,000 soums or 16.6%.
Despite the uptick, "Uzbekneftgaz" official channels have yet to furnish any details regarding the surge, leaving the reasons behind the price spike undisclosed.
A month ago, on January 1, JSC "Uzbekneftgaz" raised gasoline prices from 6,050 soums to 6,800 soums, attributing the increase to the expiration of the preferential period for zero-rate excise taxes on fuel.
Presently, reports indicate that 80-grade gasoline is fetching 8,500 soums at private filling stations, triggering lengthy queues at railway stations, some stretching up to a kilometer.
It's worth recalling that last year saw the commencement of gasoline and gas imports from Russia, with hopes for an improved energy landscape in Uzbekistan. However, instead of stabilization, the nation is grappling with escalating restrictions and persistent queues.
