Minsk has called on Uzbekistan to increase the supply of goods to Belarus in order to replace products on the list of US and Western sanctions.  The Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko stated this today, 25 April in a meeting with the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov during the visit of Belarus Minister to Tashkent.

“Belarus is interested [in increasing the import of goods from Uzbekistan], especially now, under certain restrictions imposed by the collective West. We are ready to increase the supply of Uzbek goods to Belarus," Belarus Prime Minister said.

According to Golovchenko, these goods are primarily yarn, metals, foodstuffs, fruits and vegetables, which in Belarus are stable and currently in high demand.

"We need to decide which forms to use to increase trade turnover.  We need to talk about the creation of trade houses, some transport, and logistics centers,”-said the head of the Belarusian government.

He noted that since 2017, the capacity of trade turnover between Belarus and Uzbekistan has increased fivefold.

“This is a good sign that we are on the right path. We need to work more to at least reach the assumed goal (500 million dollars)”, – Golovchenko said.

According to the reports from the Belarus side, in 2021, trade turnover volume between the two countries amounted to $301.9 million, highlighting an increase of 7.8% compared to 2020.  The exports of Belarus totaled to $245.4 million.
