Uzbek Foreign Minister meets with Trump’s team in Washington

3931On April 9, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bakhtiyor Saidov, held meetings in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. President Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor, Michael Waltz. Saidov shared details of the meetings on his official Telegram channel.
During his conversation with Marco Rubio, Saidov reported a comprehensive exchange of views on the current state and future of Uzbekistan–U.S. relations. Key topics included enhancing political dialogue, expanding economic and investment cooperation, developing regional ties, and advancing shared goals for security and stability in Central Asia.
“We highly appreciate the United States’ consistent support for Uzbekistan’s reform agenda. We agreed to maintain the positive momentum in bilateral relations by continuing high-level dialogue and practical cooperation under the strategic partnership framework,” Saidov wrote.
In a separate meeting, Saidov engaged in an open and constructive discussion with National Security Advisor Michael Waltz. The talks covered a broad range of regional and international issues, reinforcing both sides’ commitment to deepening the strategic partnership.
“Our agenda focused on strengthening security cooperation, promoting economic growth, enhancing regional connectivity, and supporting sustainable development in Central Asia. We highly value the U.S. President’s continued support for Uzbekistan’s reform efforts and our mission to secure peace and prosperity in the region,” Saidov noted.
According to U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, Uzbekistan has officially joined the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS. Secretary Rubio welcomed the move during his meeting with Saidov and expressed gratitude for Uzbekistan’s assistance in repatriating individuals deported from the United States.
“The United States looks forward to further cooperation with Uzbekistan in areas such as the modernization of safe nuclear energy technologies, increased bilateral investment, and collaboration in key minerals and other strategic sectors,” the spokesperson said.
For reference, on April 7, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, Abdulaziz Kamilov, met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in Washington. Landau thanked Uzbekistan for its continued partnership in addressing illegal immigration and terrorism.
