Bakhtiyor Saidov meets with Guterres at UN headquarters

2096On the eve of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Uzbekistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bakhtiyor Saidov, met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the United Nations headquarters. Saidov shared the greetings of Uzbekistan's President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and congratulated Guterres on the commencement of the session and the success of the Future Summit.
"We conveyed the greetings of His Excellency the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and congratulated the Secretary General on the start of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly and the success of the Future Summit. We highly appreciate the continuous support of the UN Secretariat and its structures to the comprehensive reform program implemented in Uzbekistan," he stated.
Earlier, during the general discussion of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Saidov represented Uzbekistan and addressed several key issues. He advocated for reforms in the international financial system to enhance opportunities for developing countries and called for the provision of safe, accessible digital technologies for all. Additionally, Saidov emphasized the need for strengthened international cooperation to combat climate change, particularly in vulnerable regions like Central Asia. He also discussed the empowerment of women and youth, coordinated efforts to combat terrorism and corruption, and the expansion of transport corridors and economic ties within Central Asia and beyond. Notably, he proposed transforming the training center for Afghan citizens in Termez into a Global Training Center, aiming to foster education and development in the region.
