A system requiring passengers to pay additional fees for excess baggage on buses is expected to be introduced, Sanjar Turgunov, Deputy Head of the Transport Control Inspectorate, announced at a press conference held at Uzbekistan’s Agency for Information and Mass Communications.

According to Turgunov, the current system offers limited options for paying excess baggage fees. However, this issue will soon be addressed, with work underway to develop an electronic payment mechanism for additional baggage charges.

"Once the system is implemented, passengers will be able to pay for excess baggage using ATTO cards or bank cards. The new system will be launched in the near future," he stated.

It is worth noting that as of January 1, cash payments have been discontinued on buses. Since then, the fixed fare for public transport in the capital—both buses and the metro—has been set at 3,000 sums per passenger. However, when paying via an electronic system, such as a transport or bank card, the fare remains 1,700 sums. The practice of collecting cash fares inside buses has been fully phased out.
