Asila Mirzayorova becomes the champion of the Paralympics

Asila Mirzayorova from Uzbekistan, competing in the T11 class long jump event, set a new Paralympic Games record with a distance of 5.22 meters in her first attempt. In her 5th attempt, she further improved her mark to 5.24 meters, breaking her own newly established record.

This result remained unmatched by any other athlete in the competition, and as a result, Uzbekistan’s representative Asila Mirzayorova secured the first gold medal for her country’s delegation.

With this achievement, the total medal count for the Uzbekistan delegation has reached four: 1 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze.

For reference, the previous Paralympic Games record in this category was set at the Atlanta Games in 1996, where Spain's Ortiz Ochistka held the record with a jump of 5.07 meters. Asila also won the gold medal at the World Para Athletics Championships in Paris, France, in July 2023. She is the silver medalist from the Tokyo 2020 Summer Paralympic Games.
