The former chairman of the Criminal Court of Khanabad city in Andijan region, Yunusjon Egamberdiyev, has been sentenced to 10.5 years in prison on charges of fraud and bribery. The information was reported by Aziz Abidov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court.

According to the report, the criminal case against Yunusjon Egamberdiyev was reviewed by the Judicial Panel for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court, and the verdict was announced on October 17. The 51-year-old former judge was found guilty under Article 25 (Preparation for a crime and attempt to commit a crime), Article 168 (Fraud), part 4, paragraph “a,” and Articles 25 and 211 (Giving a bribe), Part 3, Paragraph “a” of the Criminal Code. He was sentenced to 10.5 years of imprisonment and deprived of the right to hold official positions in the judiciary or law enforcement agencies for two and a half years.

Egamberdiyev was detained in May 2025 during an operation by law enforcement officers when he received $30,000 from the mother of a convicted person. He had allegedly promised to use his influence to reduce the prison term previously imposed on her son by another court. The Plenum of the Supreme Court had earlier considered the Prosecutor General’s submission to prosecute Egamberdiyev and to authorize his pre-trial detention, which was approved.

Yunusjon Egamberdiyev worked as a judge at the Asaka District Criminal Court from 2013 to 2018. He did not continue in judicial service afterward and spent some time engaged in business activities. Later, after briefly working as a lawyer, he was appointed chairman of the Khanabad City Criminal Court in December 2024 for a five-year term.

It is worth noting that earlier, another judge was sentenced to seven years in prison for hijacking a car while intoxicated.
