In the Andijan district of Uzbekistan’s Andijan region, a unique book-reading competition for mothers will be launched, with winners receiving free utility bill payments as a reward. The initiative, called “Ma’rifatli Ona” (Enlightened Mother), is spearheaded by district governor Boburjon Yuldashev, the local administration announced.

"The competition is open to mothers aged 20 to 45, with at least 50 families from each mahalla expected to participate. The goal is to encourage reading habits among parents to positively influence the younger generation. If a child sees a book in the hands of their parents, they will be inspired to read as well. This initiative aims to shape the worldview of the next generation," said Yuldashev.

The winners will receive vouchers covering their household utility bills, including electricity, gas, and drinking water, for varying durations:

- First place (3 winners): 6 months of utility bills paid
- Second place (3 winners): 4 months of utility bills paid
- Third place (3 winners): 2 months of utility bills paid

The initiative aims to promote literacy and lifelong learning while supporting families with financial incentives.
