Uzbekistan is set to embark on its first large-scale aluminum can production venture. The East Can Solutions project, occupying 21 hectares within the special industrial zone in Tashkent's Yangihayat district, will cover 100,000 square meters of production area.
The total investment in the project amounts to $90 million, with $18 million in loans provided by the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The plant is expected to create up to 500 new jobs and is scheduled to launch in June 2025. More than 30% of the products are planned for export.
The production complex operates on a vertically integrated model, consisting of two primary areas:
- Annual production capacity of aluminum cans reaching 2.2 billion units, with 1.1 billion units expected in the first phase.
- Bottling of beverages in aluminum cans and PET packaging, with an annual capacity of up to 650.9 million units.
The localization of aluminum can production will fully substitute imports, making Uzbekistan self-sufficient in this sector. The country's strategic geographical location enables the company to export products to Central Asia and Caucasian countries, strengthening its position in the region.
"The implementation of this project opens new opportunities to meet domestic demand, create high value-added products, and support local businesses. Preferential tax terms, subsidies, and ready infrastructure within the special industrial zone have created favorable conditions for local production," said Alexander Pashkeev.
East Can Solutions aims to produce 2.2 billion cans and 650.9 million bottled beverages annually, with the total production value projected to exceed $300 million. High levels of automation, utilizing modern US and European equipment, will ensure competitiveness and cost-efficiency.
The project also prioritizes environmental sustainability. Aluminum containers, known for their recyclability, offer an eco-friendly packaging solution. The facility will not only supply the Uzbek market with high-quality products but also attract international brands seeking local production or packaging services.
Over 30% of production will be exported to Russia, Kazakhstan, and other CIS countries. The company plans to increase its annual export potential to $50 million, positioning Uzbekistan as a key player in the regional aluminum can market.
