Sergio Agüero comments on Abdukodir Khusanov

Manchester City legend and former Argentine striker Sergio Agüero has said that the “Cityzens” can fully rely on Uzbek defender Abdukodir Khusanov in the future. Agüero shared his views in an interview with City Xtra.

Agüero praised Khusanov, noting that his role in the team’s defense has been steadily increasing.

“Abdukodir Khusanov has delivered very good performances this season. He has gone through his adaptation period, and now we are seeing the results. He is very strong, fast, and dominant in one-on-one duels. At just 22 years old, this means he can become an excellent defender for City in the coming years,” the former Argentina international said.

Agüero also acknowledged that Khusanov, who signed with Manchester City in January 2025, initially struggled in his debut match against Chelsea FC. However, due to injuries to several key players, head coach Pep Guardiola gave him an opportunity, which Khusanov used effectively to establish himself as a reliable central defender in a short period.

For reference, Khusanov has made 23 appearances for the English club in all competitions this season.
