Uzbekistan's Prime Minister, Abdulla Aripov, is set to visit Turkmenistan on May 24 to participate in the Council of Heads of Government meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Ashgabat, as reported by the CIS executive committee.

The meeting's draft agenda includes 12 issues. Traditionally, Council members will exchange views on pressing economic cooperation matters within the CIS countries.

The agenda proposes an extensive discussion on the drafts of the cooperation concept in the energy sector, the plan of priority measures for its implementation, and the Action Plan for optimizing infrastructure across CIS member states and developing international transport corridors.

Additionally, the meeting will consider adopting several documents related to cooperation in healthcare, the chemical industry, hazardous waste management, and the enforcement of intellectual property rights.

Another topic on the agenda is the declaration of Ashgabat as the new city of sports opportunities within the Commonwealth.

The previous Council of Heads of Government meeting took place in late October 2023 in Bishkek. Attendees included the heads of government from Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, as well as deputy prime ministers from Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkmenistan, along with representatives from the Eurasian Economic Union and the Commonwealth Executive Committee.
