Starting on October 1 of this year, the Preferential Trade Agreement between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan will take effect. This was announced on August 17 during a meeting between the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Aripov, and the acting Prime Minister of the Taliban interim government, Abdul Ghani Barodar, in Kabul, where Afghan and Uzbek businessmen were also present.

According to reports, import duties on 14 specific products covered under this agreement will be eliminated, facilitating conditions for exporters.

Furthermore, to enhance the importation of agricultural products from Afghanistan, the process for issuing phytosanitary permits has been simplified.

It was also noted that the Ayritom-Khayraton border post transitioned to a 24-hour working schedule on August 1.

Additionally, a 15-day visa-free regime, along with an exemption from all taxes, will be implemented for visitors to the International Trade Center in Termez.

An agreement on the mutual promotion and protection of investments was signed between the two countries to support the active participation of Afghan businessmen in Uzbekistan.

We would like to remind you that today, the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Aripov, traveled to Afghanistan. During the meetings, it was emphasized that there is potential to increase trade turnover between the two countries to $1 billion by 2024, and to $3 billion in the coming years. Achieving this will require the consistent and mutually beneficial utilization of untapped resources.
