6913Tashkent, Uzbekistan - From the 1st -14th of May, the World Boxing Championship for adults unfolded in Tashkent, with Uzbekistan's boxers securing an impressive tally of 5 gold, 2 sliver, and 2 bronze medals. With their exceptional performance, the Uzbekistan team triumphed, claiming the coveted 1st place in overall standings.
Among the standout athletes was Abdulmalik Halokov, who added another gold medal to the host nation's tally in the -57 kg weight category. Halokov's exhilarating bouts captivated fans and experts alike throughout the competition. In a thrilling final, he emerged victorious against Cuban contender Saidel Horta.
In an exclusive interview with QALAMPIR.UZ, Halokov revealed the immense psychological pressure he endured leading up to this championship. Following his silver medal at the 2021 World Championship in Serbia and an unexpected defeat at the "Stranja" international tournament in February, the weight of expectations mounted on Halokov's shoulders.
"I had been anticipating this championship for a long time, and I am grateful for the support I received. My coaches have worked tirelessly with me, especially my coach Davron, who provided crucial psychological guidance. My fights felt effortless. Monetary gain is inconsequential; it is the pride of representing Uzbekistan that matters. I am grateful to have shone in front of everyone," expressed Halokov.
When asked about how he intends to handle the potential pitfalls of fame, Halokov told QALAMPIR.UZ that he remains steadfast in preserving his authenticity and humanity amidst success.
"I will remain unchanged. Above all, we must remember our shared humanity. Despite being a world champion, I am just an ordinary person like everyone else," affirmed Abdumalik.
Born in 2000 in the Bukhara region, Abdumalik Halokov has amassed an impressive track record, securing victories in both world and Olympic competitions among young athletes. In 2022, he clinched a gold medal at the Asian Championship held in Amman, further solidifying his standing as one of Uzbekistan's most promising boxing talents.
