Abdulaziz Kamilov, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, current Deputy Secretary of the Security Council to the president of Uzbekistan for Foreign Policy and Security, appeared for the first time in public since 18 March.

According to the report of the US Embassy in Tashkent, Kamilov met with US Assistant Secretary of State for south and central Asian Affairs Donald Lu.

It should be noted that Kamilov, who has been long absent from the political scene, held a telephone conversation with the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, on 24 May.

Prior to the event, Kamilov was being treated abroad for health issues.  Information about him had not been forthcoming for a long time.

Abdulaziz Kamilov made his last appearance at the plenary session of the Senate on 17 March. During this session, the Minister stated that Tashkent would not recognize the self-proclaimed Donetsk and the Luhansk People’s Republics and would support the territorial integrity of Ukraine.  After that, he was absent from political scenes.

For reference, in late April, Abdulaziz Kamilov was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Security Council for Foreign Policy and Security under the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
