Man was caught smuggling jewelry worth 380 million soums

3311A man attempting to smuggle jewelry valued at 380 million soums into Uzbekistan was apprehended at the "Gishtkoprik" border customs post in the Tashkent region, as reported by the Tashkent regional customs department.
Customs officers became suspicious of a pedestrian entering the "Gishtkoprik" border post and decided to conduct a personal search. During the inspection, officials discovered 450 grams of jewelry hidden in the man's underwear and around his legs, secured with tape.
Preliminary estimates put the jewelry's value at 380 million soums.
Customs authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
"Under current regulations, individuals are allowed to bring up to 65 grams of precious metal jewelry into Uzbekistan without paying customs fees, provided they declare it," the report states.
In a similar case, authorities recently detained a man at Tashkent International Airport for attempting to smuggle a watch worth 1.5 billion soums.
