Another Russian tennis player, world No. 92 Polina Kudermetova, has obtained Uzbek citizenship. The press service of the Uzbekistan Tennis Federation reported this.
The 22-year-old Polina Kudermetova is the younger sister of Wimbledon champion Veronika Kudermetova and the daughter of Eduard Kudermetov, a Russian ice hockey champion with Ak Bars.
Earlier, in November this year, Laima Vladson and Alexandra Barmicheva, as well as professional tennis player Kamilla Rakhimova, who was ranked 109th in the WTA standings at the time, also received Uzbek citizenship.
In early December, Polina Kudermetova competed at the WTA 125 tournament in Angers, France. She exited the competition in the second round after losing to Germany’s Anna-Lena Friedsam (No. 193) with a score of 3–6, 6–1, 2–6.
It is worth noting that Kamilla Rakhimova, who also recently obtained Uzbek citizenship, went on to win the WTA 125 Open Angers Arena Loire tournament held in Angers, France.
