Four people detained for attempting to sneak 180 iPhones into Uzbekistan

At the Navoi border customs post in the Tashkent region, several individuals attempting to smuggle 180 iPhones by concealing them on their bodies and in their luggage were detained. The Customs Committee reported the incident.

According to the report, during an operational inspection, four individuals were stopped while trying to illegally bring mobile communication devices into Uzbekistan through the Navoi border customs post.

When the citizens, who had entered the country on foot from a neighboring state, were checked by customs procedures, a total of 180 iPhones were discovered hidden around their waists and inside their hand luggage.

The total value of the seized phones, taken as material evidence, was preliminarily estimated at 1 billion 80 million soums.

It was noted that customs authorities are currently conducting pre-investigation checks into the case.

As a reminder, earlier in the Osh region of Kyrgyzstan, special services disrupted the activities of smugglers who were attempting to transport mobile phones and prohibited drugs into Uzbekistan through unguarded sections of the border.
