More than 30,000 drivers punished for driving while intoxicated in 1 year

2008In Uzbekistan, more than 30,000 drivers who drove while intoxicated were fined and imprisoned in 2024. Some of them were deprived of the right to drive. This was reported by Aziz Obidov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court.
It is reported that last year, 32,723 cases were considered against 32,999 individuals under Article 131 (drunk driving) and Article 136 (evading a test for drivers of vehicles and other road users while intoxicated) of the Code of Administrative Responsibility.
In particular, administrative penalties in the form of fines, deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle and administrative arrest were applied to 31,351 citizens.
It should be noted that earlier, senators approved a bill amending the Criminal Code to establish criminal liability for repeated drunk driving, namely deprivation of certain rights for up to three years, correctional labor for up to three years, or imprisonment for up to two years.
